no worries...

I've got everything I need to drive me crazy
I've got everything it takes to lose my mind
And in here the atmosphere's just right for heartaches
Thanks to you I'm always here till closing time.

And I've got swinging doors a jukebox and a barstool
And my new home has a flashing neon sign
Stop by and see me anytime you want to
'Cause I'm always here at home till closing time...

Buck was such a class act and it really comes out in listening to his shows...

"as you can tell I am horse this eve but I am going to sing until I can't sing no more and then I will just play my guitar...as you see me walking out...no, I wouldn't do that to you."

"I am going to do everything I can to make you go home smiling tonight."

It's a shame most people associate him with Hee Haw and don't get into the MUSIC. It's deep stuff.

Jer loved it.

so very true...he and mr clark have both been tainted by it...they both are extremely talented musicians though I am sure their bank accounts were much better off with the show...

I didn't go searching today but there are a couple of youtube videos with a young buck and chet atkins that just make you shake your head at the pickin' and grinnin' between the two...I was so impressed with buck's playing with chet...he was quite the picker in his youth though it seems he went more in the direction of the signing and rhythm playing as time went on...

Dwight Yokam deserves a lot of credit getting Buck out and playing again since don rich's death and other things had he him down but fortunately not out...

you gotta love that bakersfield sound...

did you have to mention hee-haw I will be thinking about the multiple sets of twins and other oddities all evening long...

I still sing this all the time:

Gloom, despair and agony on me-e!
Deep dark depression, excessive misery-y!
If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all!
Gloom, despair and agony on me-e-e!

Love it! At least Hee Haw got the name of Buck Owens out there, so that people could then find out for themselves what he was REALLY about if they dug a little...

thanks, I haven't seen that in a long time, but like you I find myself singing it at times...

damn, I am listening to this 89 San Francisco show that I have for the third time today. my heart is just skipping a beat all over the place again...

funny, my high school friends worked in a country station that allowed for great tunes, a nice window view of the main drag along with being a perfect partying spot, so I spent a lot of time there. though the station sold itself as new country when I was around it was just hank, buck, johnny, merl, willie, waylon, patsy, loretta, etc., etc....a great learning experience to say the very least...

we also pushed the country rock envelope with neil, new riders, the dead, eagles, birds, etc., etc....

those guys got into so much trouble with the listeners and the program management about only playing old country and folk and not any of the new overly produced and poorly written nashville sounds of the time (late 70's, but I don't think nashville has changed much...)

though it all hit a head when we tried to play zep's "in through the outdoor" based on "hot dog" being given a bullet on the country charts...the program manager rushed into the studio trying to rip the record off of the turntable until I showed him the billboard bullet by "hot dog"...
